In the train shown, idler gear B is removed and replaced with a different idler that has twice as many teeth, while gears A and C stay the same. How does this change the speed ratio between A and C?

Untimed on purpose: NEIEP does not publish a time limit or a calculator policy for the EIAT, so we don’t invent one. The real test is 100 questions on paper — Reading 35, Mechanical 35, Math 30 — and 70% is a pass/fail gate that does not rank you.

The format

Bennett-style illustrated items. 3 options — fewer than the other two sections.

These reward reasoning about the diagram rather than recalling a formula. Trace the direction of motion part by part instead of pattern-matching on pictures that look similar; two diagrams can differ by one reversed gear and have opposite answers.

70% is a pass/fail gate — the EIAT does not rank you. A section score is useful for deciding what to study, but the real test reports one pass/fail result across all 100 questions. Your position on the hiring list comes from the JAC interview alone.
