Untimed on purpose: NEIEP does not publish a time limit or a calculator policy for the EIAT, so we don’t invent one. The real test is 100 questions on paper — Reading 35, Mechanical 35, Math 30 — and 70% is a pass/fail gate that does not rank you.

What the real EIAT looks like
The EIAT is the entrance test for an IUEC elevator-constructor apprenticeship, administered on paper by NEIEP for a $25 fee. Its format is published in NEIEP’s own study guide, and it is not what most prep vendors describe.

Two things NEIEP does not publish
A time limit, and a calculator policy. You will find confident claims about both — commonly “45 to 90 minutes” — on prep-vendor sales pages. None of them cite NEIEP, because NEIEP has not stated either. Our practice tests are untimed for that reason: we would rather leave a gap than fill it with folklore.
The reading section is the one people get wrong
Most aptitude-test prep assumes reading comprehension means a passage followed by questions about it. The EIAT’s reading section is cloze — a sentence with one blank and four candidate words. It tests vocabulary in context, and nothing in it requires elevator knowledge. If you have been practising passage blocks, you have been practising the wrong format. Practise the cloze format.
